The gap between rich and poor means that poor people are far more likely to miss out on the benefits of the information revolution.

But there are ways of tackling the digital divide. In Brazil a new supercheap computer is about to go into production and in Rio de Janeiro a project has brought the computer craze sweeping through the streets of the favelas.

Paula Gobbi visits a public computer centre to hear how well they're working and why learning to use a PC can help people climb out of the poverty trap.
