In the Ikolomani area in Western Kenya nearly everyone relies on local gold for an income. The work down the mines is dirty, dangerous and hard.

For the mainly young people who work there, there's little money to be made. They can't afford machinery, so sometimes dig for three months or more before finding anything.

Abhullahi Boru visited some of the young prospectors at the Ikolomani mines.
