Ravaged by years of war, Somalia is trying to disarm militia and build up a police force. Its neighbour Kenya and the United Nations is trying to support these efforts.

Kenya has paid to train around 200 recruits – many of them former militia – to form an elite protection force for Somalia's transitional government.

But is it wise to expect former fighters to form a civilian police force? Winnie Onyimbo met some of the graduates at their passing-out ceremony in Kenya.
