Songo Songo Island is the site of Tanzania’s largest natural gas reserves. This gas is piped 250 km away to be converted to low-cost electricity in the capital Dar es Salaam. But local people in the district of Kilwa surrounding the gas fields have no access to this power. And they are frustrated at being held back by their costly and unreliable supplies.
