More than 40 years ago Nepal began building a highway to link the Karnali region in the far north- west with the rest of the country. It is still not finished.
Without a decent road, the people in the region remain cut off from opportunities, communications and even food supplies.
Constructing the 200 km highway across tough terrain, in a country facing poverty and political instability, has been fraught with difficulties. But the people of Karnali are determined to see it through.
