Women in Kenya cannot inherit ancestral land – that is land passed down through families or allocated by traditional chiefs.

For some this can mean destitution – especially if they are separated from their husbands through death or estrangement.

The answer, according to women's human rights groups lies in greater legal protection and better property rights for women. Eric Kadenge reports from Nairobi.
