Women make up more than half of Nepal's 27 million people. They tend to work longer hours than men, they are less likely to be educated and have little control over land and other resources.
The current national plan for economic development and poverty reduction recognises that women's advancement is key to boosting economic growth and cutting poverty.
But while some women have benefited from government initiatives, most remain untouched.
