AIDS: Bangladesh at the crossroads

HIV is spreading fast in South and South-East Asia but Bangladesh appears to be much less affected than many other countries in the region.

A statistical model used by the World Health Organization predicts over 700,000 Bangladeshis could have contracted HIV by the year 2000. However, almost 80 per cent of these future infections could be prevented by a successful nationwide AIDS education campaign.

This media briefing looks at the situation in Bangladesh and how the media can responsibly report on HIV and AIDS.
