Ecotourism

In its purest sense, ecotourism is an industry that claims to make a low impact on the environment and local culture, while helping to generate money, jobs, and the conservation of wildlife and vegetation.

But any tourism comes at a price. It can lead to severe environmental degradation and disrupt local cultures.

This report looks at the potential for ecotourism to contribute to development strategies – and at its critics who say that until crippling national debts and dependence on commodities are resolved, bankruptcy and mass poverty will continue to threaten the earth's last remaining beauty spots.
