Farmers in the Makhathini Flats in South Africa have been growing BT cotton since 1998.

The seeds have an inbuilt repellent against pests and are supposed to cut down on pesticide, labour and boost profits. But there are contradictory reports about their success.

Interworld Radio spoke to farmers in Makhathini and to Elfrieda Pschorn Strauss who has spent time researching the impact of BT cotton.
