Fashionable, reasonably priced, chain store clothes on sale in Europe, Japan and North America may have been put together by some of the million and a half women who work in the garment factories of Bangladesh.

In spite of the efforts of campaigns and unions, their working life remains hard and dangerous. Over the past decade, more than a hundred factories have burned down, killing and injuring thousands of workers inside.

For economic survival, the women must continue to work for low wages, inside buildings that lack basic safety measures.
