Voices from the mountain: Pakistan

Herding in the pastures, hopes and fears about a new road, and education are key themes in this testimony collection from a Wakhi-speaking Ismaili community in the far north of Pakistan.

There are also accounts of life pre-1974 when Shimshal was part of the royal state of Hunza and descriptions of the community's more recent response to the Khunjerab National Park. Narrators include farmers, teachers, a world-class mountaineer, a yak herder and a development professional.
