Women’s health

10 December 1998 was the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) but critics claim that international human rights law has been guilty of 'gender-blindness'.

This report assesses progress made since the 1994 UN International Conference on Population and Development held in Cairo, which placed reproductive health firmly within the context of human rights, and recognised that women's empowerment is key to the protection of those rights.
